Moxa and Acupuncture




Mugwort aka Moxa may sound like something from Harry Potter, but in reality, it is a plant from Asia used frequently in Eastern Medicine. Dried leaves create a downy substance and is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) on or near the skin. Moxa is used to stimulate the flow of blood and qi in the body to promote healing.

Since the use of Moxa has been used for thousands of years it is hard to say what came first the use of Moxa or Acupuncture.

Moxa is used for many aliments including but not limited to:

  • Pain

  • Cough and respiratory issues

  • Digestive symptoms

  • Menstrual cramps

Fun Fact: Moxa is one of the oldest recorded methods used in turning a breach baby.
