What is a peptic ulcer?
A peptic ulcer is an open sore in the lining of your stomach or the upper part of the small intestine. That happens when your stomach acids etch away your digestive tract’s protective layer of mucus.
There are two types of peptic ulcers:
Gastric ulcer. You get this on your stomach lining.
Duodenal ulcer. This appears at the top end of the small intestine, an organ that digests and absorbs much of the food you eat.
A recent study done by Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhongnan University, concludes that acupuncture increases the total effective rate of drug therapy for the treatment of peptic ulcers.
Researchers combined acupuncture with standard drug therapy. Patients receiving both drug therapy and acupuncture in a combined treatment protocol had superior patient outcomes compared with patients receiving only drug therapy.
