Treating ADHA in Children With Acupuncture

Writer: Gail Lopez M.A.Gail Lopez M.A.

The CDC in conjunction with The American Psychiatric Association states in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5, 2013) that 5% of children have ADHD1. However, other studies in the US have estimated higher rates in community samples.

The typical treatment for ADAH include medications such as Adderall, Adzenys XR-ODT, Vyvanse, Concerta, Focalin, Daytrana, Ritalin, and Quillivant XR.

More and more parents are becoming concerned about the long-term effects of these drugs. And many are looking for an alternative treatment.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbs have found to be effective therapy. At Jade Star we treat many children with ADHA, ADD and many other conditions. Parents maybe worried that their children won’t be open to acupuncture because of the needles, we have found that children are more accepting and are often excited to try it and once they see that it really is painless they really enjoy their treatments.
